Winning Weekend in Riverview

3 games. 0 losses.  19 goals for.  Only 9 goals against.  15 trophies.  12 large pizzas. A few dips in the pool.  Countless great memories.

Game 1:  Rangers vs Rangers

In their first game, the KV Rangers took on the Sackville Rangers.  Getting goals from Edward MacDonald, Kegan MacLean and Ryan MacNeill and some great defensive zone play from Ben Fullerton and Ethan Saunders, the KV Rangers pulled out a convincing 6-1 victory.   Joey MacPhail was only 10 seconds away from a shutout when Sackville scored on a scramble in front of the net.   After the game,  Assistant Coach Mike “Dream Boat” Stackhouse,  told us Joey’s secret to success. “I told Joey to imagine the pucks are grilled cheese sandwiches and you want to catch every one of them.  I mean, what kid doesn’t like a grilled cheese sandwiches?”   It looks like that strategy worked.

Game 2:  Rangers vs Bandits – The Sequel

Flashback: On Sunday January 15th the Rangers and Bandits battled to a 6-6 draw.  The Bandits ‘power play’ helped them tie up the game in the dying minutes.  The Ranger’s stuck to their “Play Hard, Play Fair’ motto and preserved the tie.

The most anticipated game of the weekend came Saturday night, when the Rangers faced the powerful Saint John Bandits.   With last week’s game still fresh in their minds, the Rangers came out with something to prove, and won the game by a score of 8-4.  They demonstrated that if you play hard and play fair, you can never lose.  Scoring for the Rangers were Jack Breckenridge, Cade Nadeau, Mathew Beach, Ryan MacNeill and Edward Macdonald.  Getting some strong defensive play from Kyle Gould, Shawn Jones and Brayden Stanley, the Rangers were able to hold off the Bandits ‘power play’ and secure the win.   Coach Andrew Jones knew his team was out to prove something;  “Easily the best game they have played all year.  Everyone was firing on all cylinders and they were rewarded.”.     Mark your calendars, the Rangers play the Bandits again in a couple of weeks at the KV Novice Jamboree.

Game 3:  Rangers vs Bulldogs – A ‘Giant’ victory.

The last game of the tournament saw the Rangers take on the giant Riverview Bulldogs.  The Rangers may have been out-sized, but they weren’t out-hustled.  Edward MacDonald and Ryan MacNeill provided the goals, while Caelum Snow and Noah Hyslop helped shut down the big boys from Riverview, securing a 5-4 victory.  Assistant Coach Stackhouse said “Size and skill alone can’t win games. You need to have heart.  We have lots of heart and that can’t be taught.”   Coach Jones loved the way the team came together over the weekend,  “They have each other’s back. When someone makes a mistake, there is always someone there to back them up or cheer them on.”  Then he added “ The boys even picked up a trophy for Trent McGrath, who couldn’t make it to the tournament.  It’s always about the team.”

The Rangers will be in action again when they play host at the KV Novice Jamboree starting  February 3rd.

“Let’s go Rangers!!”
