Another busy weekend for the KV Novice Rangers.

GAME 1:  Stormy Night in Rothesay

In the first game of the weekend,  the Rangers hosted the Saint John Sea Dogs at Rothesay Arena on Friday Night.  There was a little confusion before the game, when it turned out that the Seas Dogs had identical sweaters as the Rangers.  In a classy move, the Seas Dogs volunteered to wear their practice jerseys for the game.  They may have worn their practice jerseys, but the Sea Dogs came to play a game and gave the Rangers a good battle.  In the end, the Rangers were able to hold off the Sea Dogs, winning the game by a score of 6-4.  Getting the goals for the Rangers were, Edward MacDonald and Brayden Stanley. Assists went to Ethan Saunders, Caelum Snow and Mathew Beach.   Coach Stackhouse praised his young goaltender;  “Joey was great when he needed to be.  He gives us a chance to win every game.”   Coach Jones was impressed with his team’s hustle, “The boys were moving tonight! Good hustle for a cold stormy night.  I need some coffee.”

GAME 2: An Exhibition Barn Burner

In a friendly exhibition game, The Rangers hosted the Saint John Spitfires Saturday afternoon at Rothesay Arena.  It may have only been an exhibition game, but both teams played like it was game seven of the Stanley Cup finals.  They battled hard and matched each other, goal for goal.  A total of 18 goals were scored in what ended in a 9-9 draw.   Tickling the twine for the Rangers were Ryan MacNeill, Edward MacDonald, Cade Nadeau, Noah Hyslop, and Brayden Stanley. Nabbing the assists were Ben Fullerton, Sean Jones and Kyle Gould.    After the game, the visiting Spitfires treated the Rangers to some pizza.   Forward Jack Breckenridge was excited about the treat, saying  “How did they know I love pizza!  I hope we play these guys again!”.     or once, Coach Stackhouse was speechless. All he could say was “Mmmmm” as he gobbled down the pizza.

GAME 3: Rangers vs Old Stars

After the pizza, the Rangers took to the ice again to take on the KV Old Stars.

Suiting up for the KV Old Stars were:

  • Rick “The Rock” MacDonald
  • Chris “Nadsy” Nadeau
  • Darren “Crusher” Stanley
  • Beth “The Flash” Stanley
  • Peter “No Fail” MacPhail
  • Andrew “Coach” Jones
  • Mike “Dreamboat” Stackhouse
  • In net  - Kegan “Big Stop” MacLean

The game was non-stop, end-to-end action.  The Rangers got off to an early lead and out-skated the rusty Old Stars for most of the game.   However, the Rangers were playing their 3rd game in two days and started  getting tired near the end of the third.  The Old Stars took advantage and buried a few late goals to take the game by a score of 9-8.   After the game, Old Stars defenseman Rick MacDonald said he was pleased with his team’s effort,  “We gave it everything we had….which isn’t much….now where’s the Tylenol?”.    Old Stars Defensemen Chris Nadeau was impressed with his opponents hustle, “I haven’t worked that hard since my pro days back with the Shreveport Mudbugs.”    Coach Jones agreed and then added;  “Now we know where Brayden gets his speed…..from his mom!!”.     Asked for his thoughts after the game, Rangers forward Ryan MacNeill said,  “They cheated.  The Rangers won!”.

The Rangers are back in action this weekend when they participate in the KV Novice Jamboree.

Let’s Go Rangers!
